Old Testament Readings

Which Are Never Read In A Roman Catholic Mass

Prophecy of Jonas (Jonah)

INTRODUCTION

If one of the Faithful participates in a Roman Catholic Mass every single day of the year, for three years, he/she will hear a considerable part of the Holy Scriptures (New and Old Testaments) during these liturgies. However, many parts of the Holy Scripture will never be read in Mass; thus, they will not be heard by the most faithful of the Faithful unless they make a point of studying the Holy Scriptures.

In the four Gospels the omissions, in many cases, make sense, since the same story or parable appears in more than one Gospel. Although they do not necessarily appear in the same manner, the key concept is still transmitted to the Faithful. The real problem arises when major portions of the Old Testament are simply left out from what should have been the Evangelization Process.

Take the Books of the Major Prophets, for example. Most of their contents are not read in a Roman Catholic Mass. Thus, most of the Faithful are ignorant of their very important contents unless they have made an effort to study it on their own.

Through the Grace of God and the diligent work of Mrs. R. M., from Puerto Rico, we are able to bring to you today all verses from the Prophecy of Jonas (Jonah) which have been left out of the Roman Catholic Masses.

The on-line Douay-Rheims Version of the Holy Bible was used in the development of what we now call the "Inconvenient Bible".

Chapter 2 verses 2-10 have been omitted from the Mass readings.

[2] And Jonas prayed to the Lord his God out of the belly of the fish.

[3] And he said: I cried out of my affliction to the Lord, and he heard me: I cried out of the belly of hell, and thou hast heard my voice. [4] And thou hast cast me forth into the deep in the heart of the sea, and a flood hath compassed me: all thy billows, and thy waves have passed over me.

[5] And I said: I am cast away out of the sight of thy eyes: but yet I shall see thy holy temple again. [6] The waters compassed me about even to the soul: the deep hath closed me round about, the sea hath covered my head. [7] I went down to the lowest parts of the mountains: the bars of the earth have shut me up for ever: and thou wilt bring up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.

[8] When my soul was in distress within me, I remembered the Lord: that my prayer may come to thee, unto thy holy temple. [9] They that are vain observe vanities, forsake their own mercy.

[10] But I with the voice of praise will sacrifice to thee: I will pay whatsoever I have vowed for my salvation to the Lord.

Chapter 3 is covered in full in the Mass Readings sometime at least every three years.
