Based on historical records about sexual disorders within the clergy and the subsequent cover-ups by the Hierarchy, should we presume that what Archbsihop Burke is saying is that during the time of dissent and rebellion in the Church people felt freer to talk about what has been going on for centuries?
In any case.... isn't it strange that Benedict XVI, after mopping the floors with Americans during his recent visit, has placed at the top two spots of the Vatican two Americans - Archbishop Levada at the Prefecture of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and Burke at what essentially is the Supreme Court of the Roman Catholic Church?
This is after John Paul II (was probably forced to) giving the most important Church of the Immaculate One - Roman Arch Basilica St. Mary Major - to the Well Stained One - Cardinal Law?
Odd, sint't it?.... Yet, quite coherent.

(2) Why "potentially" bad news? Because if the teachings they interpret differently are no more than traditions manufactured into "Divine" Laws - that would not pose a problem. Jesus Himself ran into that with the Temple Masters [Matthew 15:2-3]. However, when clear core Divinely inspired teachings become subject to interpretation we have Cafeteria Theology - the type of Theology mostly favored by most organized religions.

The essence of the false theo-logic is that if one serves Mammon for the Glory of God - it is OK.

Western European Time and have finished viewing a Discovery Civilization special documentary about the father of Pakistan's nuclear program - Dr. Khan - and what else he did, on a worldwide scale, to ensure nuclear weapon technology would be available to all. His operation was repeatedly referred to as the Walmart of nuclear technology, equipment and fuel!
His story is quite similar to the South African scientist who became the traveling salesman form induced plagues. (2)
What makes it harder to stomach all of that is that all was done directly under the noses of the CIA, President Bush key team members like Dr. Condoleeza Rice and others, the UN, and just anyone who cared to take notice.
At this time, as opposed to what Ratzinger stated while visiting the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau (3), miguel de Portugal, paraphrasing 2 Samuel 17: 16, implores to God thus:

This is how we explained it to the world media:
Before this upward move on the oil price, the 95 octane gasoline was selling in many European
Union nations at around $8.00 (US dollars) per gallon. The "Masters of the World" know that
Europeans have accepted a very high price for gas in comparison with what was being paid in
the US - considering that many of EU citizens have lower average incomes than folks in the US.
"The Masters" also know that in the US the citizens are far more subdued than their EU counterparts who, at the drop of a hat go on a public and private property destructive rampage.
Therefore - "The Masters" know that they can easily push the oil price as high as needed to yield an average US price, for 95 octane gas, of about $8.00 (US dollars) per gallon without causing a major public uproar in the US.
Therefore - if we were playing with oil futures we would figure out what oil price will yield 95 octane gas price of about $8.00 (US dollars) per gallon and bet on it.

....Barack Obama confirmed that he would maintain the embargo against Cuba? (1)
This is the one single act - bar none! - that has ensured the perpetuation of the Castro regime in Cuba. It always gave him an excuse - a "boogie man" to blame - for the destruction of the Cuban economy, an economy which, in the Americas, was only second to that of the US and a social [medical and educational] system which not even the US has yet attained.
Konrad Adenauer was indeed right when he complained that human stupidity had no limits - that it truly could reach the infinity - every day we continue to attest to his evaluation of human data processing abilities.
.....keeping with the Konrad Adenauer "principle" - people have not stopped to think that - given Rev. Wright's mentality and "theology" - what did Barack Obama do "hanging out" in a Church like that for twenty years! Even an "old uncle" with such ideas would be dropped from our list of "active relatives" while being the object of our prayers.
Is Senator Obama ignorant of 1 Cor. 5:11 (2)? The list given by Paul is not all inclusive; it is just a sample of non Christian behavior, the company of which, we must avoid..
Brethren, this is not about politics.... this is about "where we are at" already.
It used to be "Shopt 'til you drop".... now is "Do everything and deny it all - if you are firm with your denials the fools will believe you!"
