D-Ribose — Energizer and Fatigue Fighting Supplement

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Unless you’ve really experienced fatigue you cannot understand the powerful nature of it; powerful enough to bring the seemingly strongest person to their knees. I recall talking to someone about an event that was going to be in the evening. I had expressed my concern that I wouldn’t feel well then and I said something very generic like, “I’m tired right now just talking.”

Ok first off never refer to fatigue as being tired, that was my mistake then. Because that was relayed and I got a call from someone telling me, “Just get a really good night’s sleep the night before.” Oiy Vey!

But recovering from fatigue is what it’s all about and how to do that means as you well know if you have CFS, much more than getting a good night’s sleep. You have to stay tight within a healing formula, the one I recommend is:

Real whole food diet + restorative sleep + elimination of toxins and stressors + being positive and hopeful + regular graded exercise and pacing + consistency + time = healing and health.

And aside from good diet and everything else it takes there are numerous supplements that also help. One of them is D-Ribose. Remember supplements only augment the healing formula they don’t replace it. If you aren’t doing it all including eating a real whole food diet then don’t waste your money on supplements.

In your body energy production requires ATP, NADH, and FADH, molecules that are made from B vitamins, adenine and Ribose. Adenine is plentiful in your body and you can supplement with B vitamins but Ribose isn’t found in food only created in the body in a slow laborious process. In CFS your body depletes Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Ribose causing a cascade of energy depleting problems.

D-Ribose is a simple, five-carbon sugar found naturally in our bodies. When you consume Ribose your body uses it for making the energy molecule that powers our hearts, muscles, brains, etc. The amount of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in your cells determines whether you’ll be fatigued or energized and Ribose is the key building block of ATP. Without enough Ribose you cannot make ATP and end up with fatigue. You have to have Ribose available in order to power the body.

Normally you have all the Ribose you need. But in CFS you are overly depleted and your body is chronically stressed; your cells cannot make enough Ribose quickly enough to recover from any exertion. The result of Ribose depletion is chronic, persistent pain, stiffness, soreness, and overwhelming fatigue.

Studies have shown an average 44.7% increase in energy after just 3 weeks of supplementing with Ribose.

DOSE:
During the first 3 weeks take 5 grams (5000 mg) three times a day and follow with twice a day.

Honestly I don’t take tons of supplements but I do take D-Ribose because I’ve found it truly works to combat fatigue and give me energy.
